What I Learned About Confidence While Creating a Lip Gloss Line
Confidence is a word we hear everywhere, in school, on social media, and in beauty campaigns, but it wasn't until I created a lip gloss brand that I truly understood what it means.
When I started working on UNICOSMETICS, I was a teenager with a head full of ideas and a heart full of ambition. I always loved beauty, but I also felt the pressure that comes with growing up in a world that never stops watching.
Between trying to get good grades, replying to emails, being present for my friends and family, and building a brand from scratch, there were days when I felt unstoppable. And, let’s be honest, there were others when I felt like I wasn’t enough of anything. Not old enough, not experienced enough, not perfect enough.
As if life isn’t complicated enough to navigate as a teenager, social media makes that pressure even greater. It’s so easy to compare your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. Especially in beauty, when your skin, your lips, your body, your whole self can be measured in likes. I used to think confidence came from fitting into those standards. Now I know it comes from freeing yourself from them.
When I was formulating the first UNICOSMETICS glosses, I didn’t just want them only to shine; I wanted them to feel good. I kept asking myself: What if makeup could be about comfort instead of correction? That’s how the idea of a “mood gloss” was born: a gloss that adapts to your energy, not the other way around. Some days you’re bold, some days soft, sometimes you just want to feel like yourself. And that’s what makes you…you!
Working on UNICOSMETICS taught me that confidence is not something you wake up with; it’s something you practice. It’s choosing to show up for yourself even when things aren’t perfect. It’s allowing yourself to evolve. It’s creating, experimenting, and forgiving yourself when things go wrong. There were so many moments during development when formulas failed, shades looked off, or timelines stretched forever. But each setback was part of the process, like reapplying gloss after it fades (rest assured, ours don’t!). You learn, you adjust, and you keep glowing.
The more I created, the more I realised beauty isn’t about trying to become someone. It’s about becoming comfortable with who you already are. I used to feel like I had to be “snatched” all the time, polished and flawless. Now I see confidence as softer, calmer. It’s not loud, it’s steady. It’s walking into a room knowing you don’t need to prove anything because you’re already enough.
That’s the energy behind UNICOSMETICS: clean formulas, real textures, and an idea of beauty that feels like you. A gloss can’t give you confidence, but it can remind you of it, that little spark when you catch yourself smiling in the mirror and think, “I look like me, and that’s enough.”
So, if you ever feel the weight of expectations—school, work, people online—take a breath. You don’t have to be everything at once. Confidence isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. Find the things that make you feel grounded, inspired, and true. For me, it’s creating. For you, it might be something completely different. Whatever it is, lean into it and be iconically you.
