How I Turned my Love for Lipgloss into a Brand
People often ask me when I first knew that I wanted to create my own beauty brand. The truth is, there wasn’t a single “aha” moment. It happened naturally, long before I even knew what entrepreneurship really meant.
When I was ten, I pushed aside my toys and filled my playroom with jars, pigments, and way too many lip gloss samples. I mixed textures, played with colours, and started selling tiny creations to my school friends. I didn’t think I was “building a business” because I was having fun. As I continued “playing”, I became obsessed with creating something beautiful that would make people feel more confident. It was pure curiosity, and the beginning of a calling.
As I got older, that curiosity became a focus. At thirteen, I started sending emails to creative agencies, labs, and suppliers. I had no contacts, no understanding of the process, just an idea I couldn’t ignore. I introduced myself simply as Sophia and passionately told my story. People listened, and that experience taught me something priceless: when you speak with conviction, people hear potential, not age.
I quickly learned that my passion came with pressure. Balancing school, creative development, and brand building was intense. Some days felt glamorous, others, impossible.I faced rejection from people who thought I was too young to be taken seriously. There were late nights, production delays, design changes, and endless moments of doubt.
But every challenge reinforced the same truth; if something keeps calling you back, it’s because it’s meant for you.
Entrepreneurship is romanticized, especially in the beauty industry. What no one tells you is how much resilience it takes, the patience required, and the discipline to stay inspired when things don’t go as planned. I’ve come to learn that there was beauty in that struggle, too, with every obstacle I overcame helping to shape the DNA of UNICOSMETICS. Building this brand has been the most exciting and humbling experience of my life.I’ve learned that purpose doesn’t wait for permission and that you don’t need to have it all figured out, you just need to start. Every small step matters—an email, a sketch, a new idea, a mistake that teaches you something—and that’s how dreams take shape.
UNICOSMETICS isn’t just about gloss; it’s about a mindset. It’s about showing up as yourself, taking that first step, and being brave enough to keep going. I wanted to create products that feel effortless and empowering, but also a brand that reflects my belief that confidence is built, not born. To anyone reading this who feels they’re too young, too inexperienced, or too afraid, don’t wait. Your vision doesn’t need approval; it only needs commitment. Start where you are, with what you have. The timing will never be perfect, but your purpose will always be right on time.
